Obituary for Max Hill

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, Max Lee Hill, loving husband and proud father of five children, went to be with the Lord at the age of 84. Max was born on May 6, 1934, in Blytheville, Arkansas, and he married his high school sweetheart Manya (Blankenship) Hill in 1957. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1957, working as a pharmacist for a total of 55 years. For 38 years, he and Manya owned and operated Hill’s Drug Store in Highland, Arkansas.

Loved and respected in his community, Max was known for his encouraging spirit, quick wit, sacrificial service to others, intelligence, entertaining stories, and love for the Lord. He ensured that all he met knew of God’s great power and work in his life through both blessings and trials. He faithfully served his church in the roles of deacon, usher, and teacher. He lived out his devotion to excellence in education with 20 years of service, some of those as president, to the Highland School Board. He was a dedicated leader in the community and worked to form the City of Highland where he also served on the City Council. He loved photography, and he found ways to bless people with his talents and skills. Along with great care, customers in Max’s pharmacy were always sure to receive a warm smile and often reported that visiting Max was even more healing than the medication he dispensed.

Max was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Minnie (Davis) Hill and his siblings Wiliford Hill, Glenn Hill, and Margaret (Hill) Kemper. He is survived by his wife Manya and his children Lisa Culver (Steve), Michael Hill, Taryn Duncan (Tommy), Kristen Hodgson (Bart), and Courtney Sprague (Mike). He leaves behind eleven grandchildren Taylor Duncan (Sophie); Aaron Culver (Jessie); Nathan Duncan (Hannah); Natalie Culver; Kaitlyn Duncan; Hannah, Carmen, and Isaac Hodgson; and Shepherd, Sawyer, and Sage Sprague. He is also survived by his four great-grand children Boden, Griggs, and Audrey Culver and Beau Barry. He leaves behind his brother Jerry Hill (Margie) and nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Cherokee Village, Arkansas. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Highland, AR. Arrangements under the direction of Wortham Funeral Home and Cremation of Highland, AR.
